FINANCIAL EDUCATION PLATFORM

Making Investing Feel Inevitable

Making Investing Feel Inevitable

Character-driven illustrations and motion design for a financial education platform. Abstract investment concepts made tangible — not dumbed down, but genuinely visible. Illustrations that lived inside the product, not just on top of it.

THE CHALLENGE

Investing platforms lose users at the moment they're supposed to educate them

Investing platforms lose users at the moment they're supposed to educate them

The content was accurate. The presentation assumed too much. Allio needed visuals that met users where they were — concepts they could see before they could explain them. A credit score isn't a number. A portfolio isn't a spreadsheet. When you can see something, you can reason about it.

THE APPROACH

Illustration as product infrastructure, not decoration.

Illustration as product infrastructure, not decoration.

The illustrations weren't limited to editorial content — they carried the product experience. Confirmations, status screens, empty states, onboarding flows. Every moment where the UI needed to communicate something abstract got an illustration. The piggy bank mascot anchored the system across every surface — consistent grid, light source, and color palette — so every screen felt like it belonged to the same world.

IN MOTION

Two moments where static illustration wasn't enough.

Two moments where static illustration wasn't enough.

Both built in After Effects — the only tool with enough control for what each animation needed to do.

SPLASH SCREEN

The mascot sets the tone from the first second. Finance doesn't have to feel serious.

PORTFOLIO BUILDER

While the backend builds the custom portfolio, the animation keeps the user engaged. It doesn't pull data — it buys time and makes the wait feel intentional.

THE WORK

A selection from 20+ illustrations featuring Allio's piggy bank mascot.

A selection from 20+ illustrations featuring Allio's piggy bank mascot.

Built on the same grid, light source, and color palette. The piggy bank mascot — Allio's brand character — anchors every illustration. Each one translates a financial concept into something you can see — not a number, not a percentage, but a form with a face you recognize.

Credit score as an elevatorThe mascot rides from Fair (550) to Excellent (850). A number becomes a journey with a clear direction.

Emergency fund as shelter — The mascot protects its savings from the storm. Your money is safe when everything else isn't.

Investing as a classroom — The mascot teaches the language of money. Used in the education flow to reframe intimidating terminology as something learnable.

Vehicle purchase as a milestone — The mascot drives off with coins in the air. Used to show investing toward a major life goal, making the abstract feel concrete and achievable.

Home as the ultimate piggy bank — A hand deposits a coin into a house that's already full of gold. Used to frame real estate investment as a tangible, achievable goal.

Debt as a predator — A monster credit card looms over the mascot's savings. Used to name the fear without lecturing — the villain is obvious, the solution is the app.

Finance for the social media generation — A "20-something" phone surrounded by likes and dollar notifications. Used to position Allio as native to the way young users already live on their phones.

Credit score as a game you can win — A Game Boy displays your score like a level indicator. Used to reframe credit building as progress with rules you can learn, not a system designed against you.

REFLECTION

The piggy bank works because it belongs to everyone.

The piggy bank works because it belongs to everyone.

Financial products fail at illustration when they use stock imagery or aspirational lifestyle photos. Users need to see themselves in the content — situations they recognize, not ones they aspire to. The piggy bank is specific enough to be memorable and abstract enough to belong to everyone. The illustrations didn't decorate the product. They were the product.
